Channel info

DEU (Denson EL University) and the “DEC3 Model” is A College Completion Strategy. The DEC3 difference – A service developed and administered by a veteran student success coach/ administrator well-versed in the nuances of implementing initiatives and achieving goals. Individually tailored academic and peer coaching– “Because Every Student a Journey, Every Coach a Bridge”. While there are many common barriers to success, each student presents unique and individual challenges. Adult students, returning students, non-traditional students, and distance learners alike are pursuing higher education goals while facing challenges not imagined a generation ago. Today’s students face record levels of stress, anxiety, and depression along with unprecedented financial burdens and complex relationship issues. The DEC3 difference – While working with any existing campus resources, our licensed mental health professionals can provide a safety-net for more complex issues and further mitigate institutional risk. With turn-key implementation and maintenance, DEC3 programs are designed to meet the needs of your campus, the communities, and families associated with the student. Choose DEC3 services for all students, non-traditional students, remedial/ probationary students, returning students. DEC substantially and innovatively increased its capacity to assess by and through its Integrated Healthcare Model... the DEU (Denson EL University) and the DEC3 Model. DEU houses over 50 different Mental Health, AOD/ SUD-Occurring, Career paths and Workforce Development courses. Each course is carefully selected for the highest evidenced based retention and continuum of care. Consumers reside on or off campus. We, through a partnership with DEU and its 100+ Partnered Organizations, currently have enrolled over 5000 families for education, prevention, wraparound and integrated healthcare services over the last 12 months. We have currently enrolled Over 1200 families in the first 60 days of 2023, with over 500 active Families with at least one member suffering from SUD-Cooccurring Disorder, currently participating in one or more services. The DEC3 Model is a Holistic Family Wraparound Services program developed to ensure a comprehensive approach for a healthier, more productive and engaged student body. The DEC3 Model is designed to help students and family members overcome challenges and develop essential skills to complete college and career paths. These 4 Steps Include: Step 1: Identify educational goals and academic/ life factors unique to each student. First-Year First-Generation Academic Probation Drop-Out Re-entry Low-income Minority Adult Learners Distance Learners Step 2: Assess student concerns when they arise. Stress, anxiety and depression Binge Drinking Sexual assault Legal/financial issues Work & Family conflicts Coping with serious illnesses Grief and loss Life transitions Campus Conflict Sexual harassment Substance abuse Aging parents Childcare Single parent Separation and divorce Communication problems Conflict Resolution Domestic Violence Managing anger Burnout Relationships Step 3: Coach students using skills to meaningfully connect student concerns to success strategies. Communication Critical Thinking Decision Making Goal Setting Time Management Juggling Multiple Roles Note Taking Organization Planning Study skills Career Planning Test Anxiety Basic Computer Skills Test Taking Academic Advising Step 4: Refer students to campus or community resources that promote long-term stability. Counseling Academic Advising Financial Aid Coaching Tutoring Registration Career Services Mental Health Counseling Community Services State Agencies Federal Services 21 Jump Street (Youth Peer Support Specialists)- with a focus on screening for underage drinking, opioid use, and other substance use, Youth Peer Support Specialist is a service provided by young people ages 18-26 who have lived experience receiving mental health services, and who are willing and prepared to use their experience to support others. Youth Peer Support Specialists provide support to qualifying youth through shared activities and interventions. This Medicaid billable service can be provided individually or in a group setting. Youth that are eligible to receive this service must be enrolled in services within the DWIHN Provider Network. DEU OTS- (After-School/ Out-of-school Program) Through Health and Fitness Education, healthy activities, AOD/SUD assessments, screening, monitoring, mentoring, early prevention techniques and referrals, DEC enhances the continuum of care for substance use disorder (SUD). DEU through its Peer Mentor services, After School - OST, Summer Enrichment, and Career Pathways programs, account for much of the students out of school time and reduce alcohol and other drug (AOD) consumption and its negative health impact, increase abstinence, reduce costly health care utilization, and promote sustainability and the integration of behavioral health. DEU and the “DEC3 Model”. We recognize that enrollment, retention, and persistence-to-graduation rates are key to our schools’ financial viability. We also understand there are barriers to student success beyond the classroom particularly unique to urban, suburban, and rural colleges. Through a partnership with educational centers, existing staff and resources, DEC3 can help achieve institutional objectives with a seamless integration of the following components: Coaches licensed in behavioral/ mental health and trained in motivational techniques. 24/7 ‘In-the-Moment’ telephonic support Mental health crisis stabilization and assistance with everyday life challenges Coaches aware of social services to assess and refer to community, state, and federal resources. On-campus partnerships to augment existing services special initiatives such as “Early Alert” The DEC3 Model: •4-step model designed to provide comprehensive and tailored coaching services to each student. Coaching and Utilization Report provides data and analysis to inform institutional leadership. DEC3 Mobile App with push notifications of programs, services, resources, and self-help tools Social Media Outreach (promote topical content, emergency alerts, and reminders) DEC3 Website with information accessible via password on any smartphone, tablet, or computer. Our mission is to use lacrosse to broaden the horizons of our community's youth. In 2004, our programming began with a simple summer lacrosse camp in South Dallas. In 2008, we officially became Bridge Lacrosse. We have introduced lacrosse to hundreds of student-athletes in both South and West Dallas, providing hours of high-quality lacrosse instruction with the help of high school volunteers and coaches. We believe that our programs can be an integral part of youth development in the urban communities we serve.
