DEC Recovery Estates

A Denson-El Centers Non-Profit (501(C3) Organization

Having an innate awareness of the needed sensitivity of each person in recovery’s atmosphere & surroundings, our Manors are equipped to provide safe, clean and highly-functional housing: creating an environment that is psychologically & emotionally stimulating and comfortable. Understanding the impact of a successful person in recovery in reaching their person centered plan, we’re dedicated to raising the bar by providing various educational, community and assistive services designed to physically, mentally, socially, and economically impact our residents' journey towards success. Some of our current amenities provided are: GED assistance, Career and Employment Services, Literacy, Parenting, Budgeting Workshops, Home Ownership Program, Credit Counseling, Recovery Support Services, Anger Management, Information and Referrals, Men/Women Support Groups, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Relapse Prevention, Housing Resources, Parole and Probation Services, Health Insurance, and Food Assistance Programs,

Each Manor is professionally managed and monitored between 15 - 24 hrs a day via live-in, on-site staff and facility director visits. Each staff is trained in conducting and completing inside/outside ground checks, room/property and paraphernalia searches, bed counts and incident/refusal and curfew violation forms. Each Manor is equipped with state-of-the-art high definition & night infrared camera systems which permits audio and video capability for 24hr monitoring.

Our Manors’ sleeping quarters and common areas are very spacious, vary in size and can hold between 1-4 residents per room. The Manors are fully furnished with new to slightly used quality furniture, bedding, bed bug protectors, dressers, kitchen appliances (stove, refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster,electric can opener, pots/pans, full table settings), stackable washer/dryer laundry units, HD flat screen televisions, etc. Each week our presidents are provided fresh bed linen, pillow cases and towels via professional laundry service.

Each Manor is equipped with a fully stocked food and supply pantry, 1 common refrigerator, 1 commercial sized food prep refrigerator and freezer. Snacks and freshly prepared or catered meals are provided 3 times a day; traditional meals for all major holidays and specialty foods for parolees with dietary needs. Fully equipped common kitchen areas are available for Base Housing Residents.

DEC Homelessness Resources: Case Management

DEC Case management is one of the primary services offered to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD) defines case management as “a range of services provided to assist and support individuals in developing their skills to gain access to needed medical, behavioral health, housing, employment, social, educational, and other services essential to meeting basic human services.” This also includes providing “linkages and training for the patient served in the use of basic community resources, and monitoring of overall service delivery.”

DEC Case Managers work with people and families experiencing homelessness and those who are at risk of homelessness. Our case managers identify households of greatest risk and determine the type of support needed to prevent homelessness. They also help clients develop independent living skills, provide support with treatment, and serve as the point of contact between clients and people in their social and professional support systems. To be successful, DEC case managers are Highly Trained Board Certified Medical Professionals specialized in the right skills and adequate community knowledge. 

Homelessness Programs and Resources

Learn how DEC programs and resources help prevent and end homelessness among people with mental or substance use disorders. Men, women, youth, and families living with mental or substance use issues may need treatment, case management, and discharge planning in addition to financial support (e.g., employment assistance, Housing First programs, targeted rental/housing subsidies) to avoid or escape homelessness. Being homeless, no matter how long it lasts, is a life-altering traumatic event that creates major stress in any person’s life, regardless of age.

DEC SUPPORTIVE HOUSING is a highly effective strategy for people in recovery from substance use disorders. Although affordable housing is part of the solution, some people may also need supportive services to maintain housing stability. For that reason, supportive housing combines affordable housing with intensive, voluntary, coordinated services. Under a supportive housing framework, individuals in recovery from substance use disorders who prefer to live in an abstinence-focused environment are able to live independently in apartments or single-family homes in residential neighborhoods, with access to services.

Individuals can also be accommodated under Housing First with shared housing with others who also want to live that lifestyle, and intensive programming and structured service approaches. Services are usually provided in the individual’s rental unit or building, or at a place of their choosing in the community.

DEC RECOVERY ESTATES (HOUSING) model supports Recovery Housing, where people experiencing homelessness can access the affordable housing, services, and the peer-support community they may prefer as they recover from substance use issues. DEC administered in a manner consistent with the principles of Housing First as part of a comprehensive, community wide strategy, Recovery Housing can provide additional options for people who are experiencing homelessness and substance use disorders. 

Recovery Support Services Provided By DEC Recovery Estates

Our daily on-site staff duties and Certified Peer Recovery Mentor (CPRM) services consist of:

● Consistent communication with Parole Officers

● Maintaining a daily sign out/in log

● Ensuring residents attend all mandatory parole, medical and Recovery Support (Behavioral Health) Services appointments

● Thoroughly reporting & documenting incident/refusal reports when applicable 

● Cooking (3 meals daily)

● Medication Management/Monitoring

● Facilitating two (2) Relapse Prevention groups per week in designated group area 

●Conducting a minimum of one (1) Individual Progress Sessions per week per Client Provide Recovery Support Services for each client

Although our Manors are located in residential communities, within walking distances from DDOT & SMART bus routes, commute lines, commercial businesses and nearby stores, they are more-so carefully governed demographically to adhere to MDOC guidelines of NOT BEING PLACED in neighborhoods where there may be any facet regularly utilized by children under the age of 18 (playgrounds, childcare centers, K-12 schools, community recreation centers, etc.) within 1200 sq.ft. 2 of our 13 Manors are outlined below and readily available for immediate housing placements.
